Description
The Electric
Power Delivery System - An Overview for Non-Engineers
This
class provides non-engineers a strong, layman's understanding of the
fundamental concepts underlying the design, economics and operation of
electric power systems. It also addresses issues facing
design,
operating and management personnel of a modern electric utility system.
Individuals that attend this course develop a "gut feel" for
the way
that the systems are built and operated. They should feel comfortable
speaking with engineers from their company or the utility that they are
dealing with. And they should know enough to ask follow up
questions to
clarify their understanding of issues being discussed. Topics
covered include:
- The components,
design and operation of electric utility systems.
- The drivers of
system design and operation.
- Operation of the integrated
system.
- The
effects of industry and corporate changes over the past 20 years.
- Recent and on-going
standards related issues.
- Challenges created by the
evolving regulatory environment.
